Day 10 - the last day :(
This morning I was back with Matt, helping him with the efficiency of the online 'library gateway'. I had to check if all the different aspects of the detailed web site was working OK, such as the different search engines. After lunch I had a bit of extra free time until 3:00 and so i watched the football on the internet.

Day 7
Did some cataloguing this morning with Bea. I had to find certain books from the shelves that were out of date or had no further use and I would then delete these books from the system. Shortly after I met James, who controls computers around the adsetts, but I found it hard to take everything in! After lunch I was back with Simon to finish off the scanning I had started and to do some more photography of architectual designs. I would then edit them on photoshop to improve the brightness and quality.

Day 5 - Tireing end to first week
I seemed tired today for some reason. There was a lot of explaining to be done, and I was struggling to take it all in, but I think I managed. Today was about cataloguing and using a program called 'millenium' to code all the books which were previously being processed. It was long and quite repetitive, but I seemed to have an urge to finish it all in time for lunch, which suprisingly I did! This afternoon I met Roger, who talked me through the construction process of the adsetts building and many photos which represent the history of this part of Sheffield. That's it for week 1 - it has been a great experience so far...
Day 4 - The Virtual World
At collegiate today, where I met Simon Cumper at the learning centre. We went to the H&W faculty (health and well-being faculty), where I saw the different hospital facilities designed for students. I was amazed by the technology they had, like manakins and even virtual reality devices which was incredible, I felt like I was actually touching something when I was really touching mid air. I realised how useful this could actually be for students working in this faculty. We finished off with some 3D video on a huge screen, some of it completely shocked me, especially with a huge noisy wasp flying towards my face. The afternoon was releatively slow, however I got to know some interesting search engines and other useful sites.

Day 1 - Understanding learning centre
I began the morning by having a personal tour around the centre from Kathryn, discovering the severeal different facilities on each floor and basically to get to know my way around the building. There was a lot to explain, but I was interested in what was required for certain jobs and how I will get involved over the next two weeks. I found out mainly about the library areas and the process of loaning books to students, where I was suprised by the amount of media resources and Ebooks there were on the shelves. I also found that I could be at the work desk during my varied two weeks. However, the safety aspect was important and I had to learn about the several confusing fire exits and what I should do in the event of a fire.
After lunch, I met Matt, who explained the amount of money required for the centre to work. Part of my task today was to research certain university search engines for academic and vocational subjects, in order to compare certain aspects. For example, the relevance of the search results, the ability to refine and the general layout and appearance of the websites. Later this afternoon, I will be seeing Hilja to burn some CDs. Overall, it has been a great introduction to my work experience.
